2002: HUSBAND JAILED AFTER 'BRUTAL' ATTACK ON WIFE
2002: A woman who was violently assaulted by her intoxicated husband has lost most of the vision in one eye, a court was informed.Mark Skelhorn struck and kicked his wife so severely that she suffered a detached retina along with a dislocated nose.
Despite undergoing treatment on her injured eye, she can only tell the difference between light and darkness.
It was also revealed that the woman might be willing to consider reconciling with her husband if he sought help for his alcohol abuse.
Skelhorn, 41, of Cambria Street, Deane, appeared in Bolton Crown Court to receive his sentence after admitting to unlawful wounding.
The judge, Recorder Clement Goldstone QC, described his actions as a brutal and savage assault, and sentenced him to nine months imprisonment.
Prosecutor Mr.
Paul Treble told the court that the couple had been married for 13 years.
On the day of the assault, Mrs.
Skelhorn was at a nearby pub playing for a women’s darts team when her husband arrived drunk.
When they got back home, she lit a gas fire, which led to an outburst of violence from Skelhorn until a neighbor intervened.
He also admitted to having issues with alcohol and expressed uncertainty about how and why he caused such serious injuries to his wife.
