MARK JONES FROM GOLDENHILL SENTENCED AFTER SICKENING SEXUAL ATTACK IN STOKE-ON-TRENT
In April 2018, a disturbing case emerged involving Mark Jones, a 53-year-old man from Goldenhill, who was convicted of carrying out a heinous sexual assault on a young schoolgirl. The incident, which took place in the Stoke-on-Trent area, shocked the local community and led to his subsequent arrest and conviction.According to reports, Jones approached the young girl with a sinister proposition, asking if she would like to earn £10. The girl, seemingly unaware of his intentions, agreed to the offer. It was at this point that Jones's actions took a disturbing turn. He undressed the girl, then proceeded to touch her chest and engage in sexual assault. The assault lasted somewhere between 10 and 20 minutes, during which the girl was subjected to inappropriate and illegal acts.
The matter was reported to the police, who swiftly responded to the incident. During police interviews, Jones admitted to touching the girl’s private areas and confirmed the duration of the assault. He expressed confusion about his motives, stating that he did not understand why he had done it and expressed remorse for his actions.
Jones, who resides on Broadfield Road in Goldenhill, pleaded guilty to charges of sexual activity with a child. His plea and the evidence presented in court led to a sentencing at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court, where he was handed a prison term of 32 months. The court's decision underscores the severity of his crime and the protection of minors from such predatory behavior.
Prosecutor Brian McKenna detailed the sequence of events, emphasizing the predatory nature of Jones’s conduct: “He asked her if she wanted to earn a tenner. She said she did. He undressed her. He touched her private area and touched her breasts.”
Jones’s remorse was also noted during the proceedings, with him telling police that he was very sorry for what he had done. Despite his apologies, the court made it clear that such offenses warrant significant punishment to safeguard the community and deter similar conduct in the future.
