MARK GRAVES FROM WYBERTON BANNED FOR LIFE AFTER TANNING SALON VOYEURISM IN LINCOLNSHIRE
In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the local community, Mark Graves, a 48-year-old resident of Wyberton, Lincolnshire, has been handed a lifetime ban from every tanning salon across England and Wales. The ban was imposed after Graves was caught engaging in voyeuristic behavior at the Tan Express Studio located in Boston, Lincolnshire, where he was found secretly filming a naked woman in a neighboring cubicle.Graves' actions came to light when he was caught setting up a camcorder in a manner that allowed him to record a woman who was in the process of getting dressed after her tanning session. The incident occurred at the Tan Express Studio in Boston, Lincolnshire, a popular local establishment. Graves, who was a regular customer at the salon, had positioned the camera in such a way that the red recording indicator was visible through a gap in the partition, betraying his illicit activity.
On the 13th of November, Graves admitted to the voyeurism charge during a court hearing at Lincoln Crown Court. Judge Sean Morris, presiding over the case, condemned Graves' behavior, stating, “This was a deliberate act for your own sexual gratification.” The court was told that the victim, a female student, had just completed an eight-minute tanning session and was in the process of dressing when she noticed the red light of Graves’ camcorder shining through the wall.
Upon discovering the device, the woman confronted Graves, who was in an adjacent cubicle. His response was dismissive; he attempted to dismiss her concerns by calling her “a weirdo” before walking out of the salon and discarding the camcorder. The victim then reported the incident to the police, leading to Graves’ identification as the perpetrator.
In addition to the voyeurism charge, Graves also admitted to possessing extreme pornography and breaching a previous sex offenders’ order. Specifically, he failed to notify police of his whereabouts and movements, violating the conditions of his earlier order. The court also heard that Graves had been found in possession of a DVD containing illegal and disturbing content, including a clip depicting a woman engaging in sexual activity with a dog.
This discovery was made during a police search of Graves’ home in St Leodegar’s Close, Wyberton, in October 2012. The police had conducted the search after Graves breached his sex offenders’ order earlier that year. The order, issued by Lincoln Crown Court in 2009, was related to his previous conviction for making indecent images of children.
During the court proceedings, prosecutor Andrew Scott detailed the findings, emphasizing that Graves was legally bound to comply with the conditions of his sexual offences order. The police investigation uncovered the DVD, which contained highly illegal material, including the disturbing clip involving the woman and the dog. Graves was also found to have breached his order by traveling to Spain without notifying authorities and by being absent from his residence for more than seven days without proper reporting.
Defense attorney John Storer argued that Graves’ breaches were unintentional and caused by logistical issues, such as travel arrangements and late notifications. Regarding the DVD, he claimed it was a promotional item received in the mail, and that out of 239 DVDs seized, only one contained illegal content. The magistrates decided to refer Graves to Lincoln Crown Court for sentencing, indicating the seriousness of his violations and the disturbing nature of his offenses.
