MARK GOOR OF HAMPTON MAGNA SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENSES IN WARWICK

In a case that has shocked the community of Hampton Magna and the wider Warwick area, Mark Goor has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after being found guilty of multiple serious sexual offenses involving minors. The proceedings took place at Warwick Crown Court, where the court heard a disturbing history of Goor’s criminal behavior dating back to his teenage years.

Goor, now 31 years old, was convicted of raping a young boy and sexually abusing a girl during the early 2000s. The court was told that he had maintained his innocence up until the day of his trial, despite overwhelming evidence and the testimony of one of his victims. It was only when a victim appeared in court to give evidence that Goor finally admitted guilt, pleading guilty to charges of rape, indecent assault, and acts of gross indecency committed against the boy.

The court also heard that Goor, a resident of Hampton Magna, Warwick, had committed further offenses involving other minors. He admitted to indecency with a girl during the same period and had incited another girl to engage in sexual activity in 2013. These revelations painted a picture of a man with a long history of predatory behavior towards children.

Judge Anthony Potter, after reviewing the case and considering the risk Goor posed to children, decided that he was a significant danger and sentenced him to an extended term of nine years in prison. The judge clarified that Goor would serve a minimum of six years before being eligible for parole, and he would remain on license for the remainder of his sentence plus an additional five years, ensuring strict supervision upon release.

Prosecutor Matthew Barnes detailed the disturbing history of Goor’s offenses. He revealed that Goor had sexually abused a seven-year-old girl when he was just 11 or 12 years old. The girl did not initially disclose the abuse, but later confided in her boyfriend, which eventually led to police involvement. Interestingly, by that time, another man in his twenties had contacted authorities to report that Goor had also sexually abused him when he was about seven years old.

Further complicating the case, Goor had ongoing contact with a girl aged 13 or 14, sending her inappropriate messages. When Goor was arrested in November 2017 following a complaint from his male victim, he initially showed signs of remorse, telling officers, “I f***ing hate myself.” However, he later retracted these sentiments during police interviews, denying all allegations.

Additional background revealed that Goor had previously received a police caution at age 19 for sexual activity with a girl under 16. In 2017, he was also given a ten-month suspended sentence for possessing indecent images of children. His defense argued that Goor no longer posed a danger and expressed remorse, claiming he had turned his life around and that his issues with sexual preferences were behind him. However, the court was unconvinced, citing a pre-sentence report that indicated Goor had shown little empathy or insight into his offending.

Judge Potter emphasized that Goor’s pattern of offending, including the more serious crimes committed as a youth, demonstrated a significant risk of causing further harm. The judge stated that Goor’s claims of remorse appeared to be more about his own suffering than genuine regret for his actions. As part of his sentence, Goor was ordered to register as a sex offender for life.

In a related case from May 2016, Goor, then 27, was involved in uploading indecent images of children and attempting to solicit explicit images of a five-year-old girl. Police investigations uncovered over 190 images of children as young as five, including videos depicting sexual acts. Goor’s online conversations revealed a disturbing interest in young girls, with explicit exchanges about his desire to see and do inappropriate things to children. Despite these serious offenses, Goor received a ten-month suspended sentence and was ordered to participate in a sex offender program, along with a ten-year registration requirement.

Throughout the court proceedings, Goor’s behavior and history underscored the grave danger he posed to children. The court’s decision reflects a firm stance on protecting minors from individuals with such a troubling pattern of sexual misconduct.
