DOMESTIC ABUSER SKIRTS JAIL DESPITE THREATENING EX PARTNER
A man named Mark Falconer has been involved in threatening and abusive behavior towards his former partner and others, and has narrowly avoided a jail sentence. At Wick Sheriff Court, Sheriff Andrew Berry sentenced Falconer to 270 hours of unpaid work and placed him under supervision for 18 months.
Additionally, Falconer was subjected to a non-harassment order banning him from contact with Nicola Swanson for two years.
The court was informed that Falconer had previously admitted to threatening Ms.
Swanson and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
The incident began when she visited Falconer's home at The Forge, Reiss, on October 14 last year, regarding a family matter.
CCTV footage showed Falconer approaching Ms.
Swanson outside the house, with witnesses describing him advancing towards her, leaning over her with a clenched fist and threatening her.
Earlier in the year, on May 7, Falconer was observed driving slowly towards store worker Mark MacDougall, then accelerating harshly and swerving past him, which MacDougall reported to the police.
Sheriff Berry remarked that Falconer did not recognize the seriousness of his actions and commented on typical domestic abuser behavior, displaying a sense of self-righteous entitlement and a lack of understanding of the gravity of his actions.
Falconer did not address his domestic abuse issues and did not seem to comprehend their severity.
Besides the unpaid work and supervision, Falconer was also ordered not to contact Mr.
MacDougall for two years.
