ROGERSTONE MAN JAILED FOR TWO-YEAR CAMPAIGN OF VIOLENCE AND COERCIVE CONTROL
Marcus Hadley, a resident of Rogerstone, was found guilty of a prolonged pattern of violence and controlling conduct towards his partner over a span of two years. The court was informed that he had strangled, bitten, and issued death threats to his former girlfriend during this period.
The final assault in July 2024 was the culmination of multiple frightening events that began after they met on a dating app in 2022.
The victim described her experience as a "living nightmare" and revealed she has PTSD and depression as a result of Hadley's abusive behaviour.
During sentencing at Newport Crown Court, Judge Daniel Williams pointed out that Hadley's violent and manipulative behaviour started as early as July 2022.
The judge recounted specific episodes, such as him controlling her clothing choices, flooding her with messages, and threatening to reveal personal information.
There were also incidents of physical assault, including strangulation and kicking, with a particularly disturbing event occurring in January 2023 when Hadley, driven by jealousy and after accusing her of eyeing another man, strangled her.
The most severe attack happened in July 2024, when Hadley, heavily intoxicated after a funeral, went to her home, refused to leave, and launched an assault that included biting her face, pressing a knife to her throat, and issuing a murder threat.
The victim's statement highlighted the severe emotional toll, saying she no longer trusts people and feels permanently changed.
Hadley's defence admitted that he struggled with accepting the court's decision but stated he has since abstained from drugs and alcohol and is focusing on self-improvement.
He received a five-year prison sentence for threats to kill, with additional sentences serving concurrently.
Officer PC Ffion Robinson of South Wales Police commented on the case, praising the victim’s bravery and encouraging others experiencing abuse to come forward.
She emphasized that abuse can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, or occupation.
