HULL MAN SENTENCED FOR DOMESTIC STRANGULATION AFTER JEALOUS RAGE
An incident involving Marcin Ciesla, a 28-year-old man from Hull, has resulted in a court sentence. The court heard how Ciesla confronted his estranged wife after she and a female housemate returned home around 3:30 am following a night out.
The altercation was ignited by Ciesla's suspicion that his wife was whispering about another man she met at a party, which led to him forcing open the bathroom door and barging in.
During the confrontation, Ciesla grabbed his wife by her hair, slammed her against a wall, and attempted to pull her down the stairs while shouting at her to leave.
The housemate intervened but was unable to stop him; she also called the police.
Ciesla then put his wife in a choke hold around her neck, restricting her breathing.
When police arrived at 3:50 am, Ciesla was arrested and taken to Clough Road police station.
The victim's hair was found on the floor.
Ciesla admitted to the incident, stating he hurled insults and grabbed her around the neck, although he denied putting her in a choke hold, claiming he only wanted to scare her.
He also acknowledged being intoxicated, having consumed five beers without eating.
The court considered his guilty plea on a full facts basis, despite the victim not cooperating with the prosecution.
Ciesla, who is Polish and had no previous convictions, was sentenced to a one-year suspended prison term, 120 hours of unpaid work, and 20 days of rehabilitation, alongside an order to pay £500 in costs.
His solicitor noted that he regretted his actions, which are out of character for him, and acknowledged that alcohol played a role in his behavior.
