HALSTEAD MAN JAILED FOR FIVE YEARS AFTER BEING FOUND GUILTY OF RAPE
A RAPIST who isolated his victim from her friends and family so he could control her movements 24 hours a day has been jailed.Marc Cheeney, 22, scarred his victim by inflicting constant emotional abuse during a four-month period which involved him belittling her and degrading her on a regular basis.
His conduct culminated in Cheeney raping the woman at an address in Halstead and leaving her to make her way home in a taxi, Chelmsford Crown Court heard.
A judge jailed Cheeney for five years, meaning he will miss the birth of his new partner’s child later this month.
Richard Potts, prosecuting, read out a victim impact statement on behalf of the victim who said Cheeney ruined occasions including her school prom and left her in constant fear of what he would do next.
The statement read: “I spent every night crying and crying and questioning what I did wrong to make me deserve this.
“Every time I saw him I prepared myself for him to belittle me.
Things such as my prom were ruined due to him – I just wanted to enjoy being a young girl.” She continued: “When I reported him to the police, I only became more afraid – I was scared he would come after me.
I worry he will do this again and again to other people.
I am proud of myself for reporting him but nothing will ever completely heal me from the mental pain I suffer.” “Knowing he has received punishment has given light to my life knowing I can be at peace.” He, of Toppesfield Road, Great Yeldham, admitted one charge of controlling and coercive behaviour but denied rape.
He was later convicted by a jury.
He is to serve a five-year jail term, with a ten-year restraining order and indefinite notifications about his whereabouts upon release, serving two-thirds of his sentence before release on licence.
