ASYLUM SEEKER LIVING AT RAF WETHERSFIELD SEXUALLY ASSAULTED NURSE IN 'DEGRADING' ATTACK
A refugee from the Middle East committed a sexually abusive act against a nurse in what was described as a degrading manner.Maqbil Dhaheri, aged 36, was residing at the Wethersfield Asylum Centre, located on the former RAF airfield in Braintree.
On January 3, he was taken to Broomfield Hospital after consuming a litre of vodka.
He was placed in a coma and placed on mechanical ventilation in the hospital’s intensive care unit due to the dangerous level of alcohol intake in January.
During a hearing at Chelmsford Magistrates Court on April 7, court proceedings included testimony from the nurse about her experience following the assault.
Prosecutor Bernadette Danagher stated that the nurse described Dhaheri’s touch as a firm rub.
She emphasized that she did not expect such treatment at her workplace and considered it unacceptable.
She explicitly said she did not grant permission for him to touch her.
Additionally, the prosecutor reported that Dhaheri urinated against railings on the street while being transported back to the RAF site, an act witnessed by a woman and a child nearby.
The court was also informed that Dhaheri arrived in the UK in September 2023 seeking refuge from oppression in his home country.
He pleaded guilty to charges of sexual assault and an act outraging public decency shortly after the incident.
Defence counsel Ian Clift explained that Dhaheri has learning difficulties and issues with self-expression.
He expressed regret and shame over his actions, noting that the incident was brief and that the nurse was able to move away quickly.
Dhaheri appeared in court wearing a blue tracksuit with short black hair and facial hair.
An experienced interpreter stood outside the dock translating his words, as Dhaheri loudly shouted, raised his hands, and interrupted multiple times during the hearing.
He received a community order for one year, which includes a 10-day requirement for rehabilitation activities and 100 days of alcohol abstinence.
A tracking device will monitor his alcohol-free period, and he was ordered to pay £199 in fines and inform authorities of his conviction related to the sexual offence.
