A medical professional from Edinburgh has been sentenced to four years in prison after being found guilty of raping a student nurse. The incident occurred in December 2018 when Manesh Gill, aged 39, lured the young woman to a hotel in Stirling under false pretenses and committed a serious sexual assault.
According to court proceedings, the victim described the encounter as both distressing and frightening. The High Court in Edinburgh heard that Gill, a married father of three and a general practitioner working in Edinburgh, had contacted the nurse through a dating application. The court was told that Gill brought along a condom, Viagra, and a bottle of pink gin, which was the victim’s preferred drink, to the hotel in Stirling.
During the trial earlier this year, Gill denied the allegations of rape, asserting that the sexual activity was consensual. He explained that he was a married man with a professional career and that he engaged in dating to meet women, emphasizing that he did not want his personal life or his job to be connected to the incident.
