MALCOLM MORTON BANNED FROM RETURNING TO OXFORD AFTER SEX OFFENCES IN BARTON
In a significant development concerning public safety and community protection, Malcolm Morton, a 61-year-old man with a disturbing history of sexual offences against young girls spanning over a quarter of a century, has been explicitly prohibited from returning to the town of Oxford. Morton, who previously resided on Edgecombe Road in Barton, was convicted in 2003 of multiple sexual offences involving children, leading to an eight-year prison sentence.Following his release from prison in Nottingham this past Friday, authorities have taken stringent measures to ensure he does not re-enter the Oxfordshire community, particularly Barton. The decision comes amid community fears that Morton might attempt to return to his former residence or nearby areas, raising concerns about the safety of local residents and potential victims.
Fiona Tarrant, a spokesperson for Thames Valley Probation, addressed these concerns publicly, stating, “We have a big say about where he can and can’t go and he won’t be coming to Oxfordshire.” She emphasized that while probation services typically do not comment on individual cases, they recognize the community’s worries and want to reassure residents that appropriate steps are being taken. Tarrant further clarified, “There’s no plan to release him near his victims. That wouldn’t be appropriate.”
Morton is currently under close supervision through the Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA), a coordinated effort involving various agencies to assess and manage the risks posed by sex offenders. This multi-agency approach aims to prevent any potential harm and ensure that individuals like Morton are monitored effectively to protect the public from reoffending. The community of Barton and the wider Oxford area remains vigilant, with authorities committed to maintaining strict controls over individuals with such a troubling history.
