MALCOLM LEATHER FROM SANKY BRIDGES BANNED FROM SOLO BUS TRAVEL IN WARRINGTON AFTER SEXUAL ASSAULT ON 12-YEAR-OLD GIRL
In a serious incident that has drawn significant attention from local authorities and the community, Malcolm Leather, a 69-year-old resident of Sankey Bridges, has been subjected to legal action following an inappropriate and disturbing encounter involving a young girl.The incident occurred on the afternoon of Friday, February 17, and has led to a court case that highlights ongoing concerns about safety and conduct on public transportation in Warrington.
According to reports presented in Warrington Magistrates’ Court, the young victim, a 12-year-old girl, was traveling alone on a number three bus that was en route between Warrington Bus Station and the Manchester Road bus stop situated next to Beresford Street.
The journey took place sometime between 3:00 pm and 3:30 pm.
During this ride, an unidentified man, later identified as Malcolm Leather, inappropriately touched her leg with his hand.
The act was deemed to be sexual in nature, and Leather, upon being charged, pleaded guilty to the offense of assault of a girl under 13 by touching.
Following the incident, Cheshire Police launched an investigation, which included the release of CCTV images of the suspect in an effort to identify and locate him.
The police confirmed that they believed the incident to be isolated but emphasized that they were actively pursuing all leads to bring the responsible individual to justice.
The investigation was thorough, involving multiple inquiries to establish the suspect’s identity and ensure community safety.
Malcolm Leather, who resides on Samuel Street in Sankey Bridges, was eventually apprehended and brought before the court.
His guilty plea resulted in a sentence handed down by Deputy District Judge Angharad Davies.
Leather was sentenced to an 18-month community order, which includes 25 days of rehabilitation activities aimed at addressing behavioral issues.
Additionally, he was ordered to pay a fine of £120, along with £120 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service and a surcharge of £114 to support victim services.
Furthermore, Leather is required to register as a sex offender for the next five years and must adhere to a sexual harm prevention order for the same duration.
A key restriction imposed by this order is a ban on traveling alone on public transport, specifically buses and trains, during designated times: from 7:30 am to 9:30 am and from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm.
During these hours, Leather is mandated to be accompanied by a support worker or another approved adult when using public transportation, as stipulated by the court.
This case underscores the importance of vigilance and the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to protect vulnerable members of the community, especially children, from sexual misconduct in public spaces.
