Gateshead Rapist
A serial rapist named Majid Bairami has been sentenced to over 13 years in prison for two horrific attacks on vulnerable women, one of whom was pregnant at the time. During the first assault in Blaydon, Gateshead, Bairami threatened his victim with a knife, held it to her neck, and raped her while she begged him to stop. After the attack, he told her that if she told anyone, he would kill her unborn child. The victim reported suffering from flashbacks, post-traumatic stress, depression, and anxiety, leaving her unable to live normally. Later that same year, Bairami raped another woman in Walker, Newcastle, during which he pinned her down, causing bruising, injuries to her arms, and biting her neck. The second victim described feeling socially isolated and suffering from depression and anxiety after the assault. Bairami, who also has a nine-year sentence for a rape committed in Derby in 2013, was convicted of two counts of rape and sentenced to 13 years and 10 months. The judge, Judge Robert Spragg, described him as 'dangerous' and stated he would serve at least two-thirds of his sentence incarcerated.
