BLACKBROOK MAN JAILED FOR PUNCHING PREGNANT EX-PARTNER AND PREVIOUS VIOLENT CRIMES
A convicted individual, Luke Woods, has been re-incarcerated following an incident where he punched his pregnant ex-girlfriend, causing her a permanent facial scar. The court heard that Woods, now 23, 'acted like an animal' during the attack on his victim, who was 30 weeks pregnant at the time.
The assault resulted in her being knocked to the ground and suffering a laceration to her face, which requires plastic surgery.
Woods had prior convictions, including a four-year manslaughter sentence for the 2017 death of Len Saunders, which was caused by a single punch.
During the recent hearing, Woods pleaded guilty to ABH (actual bodily harm) for the December 6 attack, which occurred after a phone argument and near Fosters Park.
The victim had gone to visit her sister's birthday when she was contacted by Woods, leading to the assault.
The court described Woods as someone 'unable to control his emotions' and acting impulsively, with previous convictions for violence and a history of domestic-related offenses.
He was sentenced to two years in prison, with the judge acknowledging his remorse expressed in a handwritten letter, where Woods admitted he was 'acting like an animal.' The judge also highlighted that the offense was committed in a domestic context and involved a vulnerable person, which aggravated the case.
Woods previously did not plead guilty upfront, but his plea at the Crown Court reduced his potential sentence.
The court emphasized the importance of addressing Woods' behavioral issues and noted his willingness to change, especially with a baby due soon.
