LUKE SMITH FROM ACOMB SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEXUAL IMAGES IN YORK

In June 2017, a man from Acomb, named Luke Smith, was brought before York Crown Court following a police raid on his residence.

During the search, authorities discovered a disturbing collection of sexual videos and photographs depicting children on Smith’s computer.

Prosecutor Rob Galley detailed that the evidence included six videos classified as the most severe category of child sexual abuse, along with three videos of a moderate severity.

Additionally, two photographs fell into the lowest category of such material.

Further investigation revealed that Smith’s computer was equipped with software capable of deleting browsing history, as well as specialized browser tools designed to mask his online identity from others.

Police also uncovered evidence indicating that Smith had actively searched for sexual images involving children, with the youngest child depicted in the material estimated to be around eight years old.

At the hearing, Smith, aged 28 and residing on Greenwood Grove in Acomb, was visibly emotional, crying in the dock as the court proceedings unfolded.

He pleaded guilty to four charges related to possessing indecent images of children.

The court sentenced him to a three-year community order, which includes ten days of rehabilitative activities and participation in a sex offenders’ treatment program.

In addition to the community order, Smith was placed on the sex offenders’ register and subjected to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).

This order imposes restrictions on his internet usage, aiming to prevent further offenses.

Both the register and the SHPO are set to remain in effect for five years.

Prosecutor Galley emphasized the severity of the case, highlighting the disturbing nature of the material found and the potential risk posed by Smith.

The defense acknowledged the impact of the police investigation, stating that Smith had lost his job, his home, and his relationship as a consequence of the case.

The court’s decision reflects the seriousness of the offenses and the ongoing measures to monitor and restrict Smith’s online activities for the foreseeable future.
