MAN ADMITS ONLINE GROOMING AND SEXUAL ASSAULT AT HAMILTON SHERIFF COURT

A man has admitted sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl after grooming her online.

Luke Palmer travelled from England to meet the youngster and molested her at a bed and breakfast in Strathaven.

The 30-year-old appeared from custody at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week.

He admitted sending the girl sexual images and getting her to send him intimate pictures of herself between December 19, 2022, and January 21, 2023.

Palmer also admitted touching her inappropriately after they had partially undressed in a guesthouse on January 5, 2023.

The court heard he is currently serving a 10-year sentence imposed in England two years ago.

After a brief hearing, Sheriff Louise Gallacher deferred sentence until next month for background reports and a risk assessment.

She warned Palmer: "A custodial sentence is inevitable."
