GEDLING MAN JAILED FOR VIOLENT ASSAULT AND THREATS AGAINST WOMAN

A violent offender has been sentenced after assaulting and threatening to kill a woman he met in a pub and striking another man with a baseball bat outside a hotel.

The incident dates back to December 3, 2022, when Luke Hancock from Waldrom Road, Gedling, attacked the woman and also caused damage to her car windscreen.

Despite being told she did not want to continue a relationship, he continued to send her numerous threatening messages between December 3 and December 31, with threats that included harm towards her and her children.

He was arrested on New Year’s Eve after Nottinghamshire Police received reports of a fight in the Mapperley Park area.

During the incident, Hancock handed a baseball bat to Ricky Wilding of Wigman Road, Bilborough, and both men were arrested, interviewed, and charged.

Hancock was sentenced to two years in prison and a five-year restraining order after pleading guilty to charges including assault causing actual bodily harm, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, assault by beating, malicious communications, and criminal damage.

Wilding received an eight-month suspended sentence and was ordered to complete 120 hours of unpaid work and 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days.

Detective Constable Jodie Turton of Nottinghamshire Police expressed that these were serious offences that must have been extremely frightening for the victims.

She highlighted Hancock’s obsession with the woman and his repeated threatening behavior making her feel scared for herself and her children.

His assault on another man with a baseball bat involved multiple blows that caused pain and bruising, and she affirmed she was pleased that he was now off the streets, believing the sentence was appropriate for a dangerous individual.
