NORTH TYNESIDE MAN BANNED FROM KEEPING PETS AFTER DOG FOUND SEVERELY NEGLECTED
A North Tyneside man, Lucas Atkinson, has been banned from keeping animals for three years after his severely neglected dog, Rocco, was found in an emaciated state covered in sores, fleas, and infested with live fleas.
RSPCA officers visited Atkinson’s home in St John’s Walk, Percy Main, following concerns about the dog living in the flat.
On arrival, they noted a strong smell of ammonia, wet and sticky patches on the carpet, and a dog bowl with untouched food.
Rocco was very thirsty, with visible sores, hair loss, and fleas, and had not received veterinary care in several years.
The vet reported that Rocco had suffered from neglect for at least three months, having been starved and suffering from skin and flea infestations.
The court case resulted in Atkinson being fined £120, paying £200 costs, and a £48 victim surcharge, alongside the three-year animal keeping ban.
Inspector Ian Smith described Rocco as underweight with bones easily felt, emphasizing the prolonged suffering due to neglect and neglectful veterinary care.
