Luca Fargnoli admitted to assaulting a woman, causing her injuries, during the early hours of August 28.
Fiscal Fiona Hamilton informed Selkirk Sheriff Court that the couple had a relationship described as "volatile" for approximately a year and a half.
She explained that the woman had been drinking in Galashiels before taking a taxi to Fargnoli’s residence in Melrose.
Ms.
Hamilton stated: "At about 20 to five in the morning, they began to argue, during which he punched her on the arms and legs, and she attempted to push him away." The woman managed to call 999 using her mobile phone, with witnesses at the nearby Station Hotel hearing her in distress.
The fiscal added: "She left the property barefoot and sustained injuries, including swelling to her chest."
