LLOYD PRIOR FROM EAST BERGHOLT CONVICTED OF MULTIPLE SEXUAL OFFENCES AGAINST CHILDREN AT CHELMSFORD CROWN COURT
A courageous woman has come forward publicly to share her story after she and another victim reported to Essex Police in 2022 about long-standing criminal acts committed by Lloyd Prior, a 36-year-old man residing in Broom Knoll, East Bergholt. The allegations involve a series of serious sexual offences that took place over an extended period, specifically between the years 2005 and 2013. These offences were committed against two young girls, both of whom were minors at the time the crimes occurred.Following the reports, Lloyd Prior was brought to trial at Chelmsford Crown Court. Throughout the legal proceedings, he maintained his innocence, pleading not guilty to all charges. The trial, which concluded on 20 January 2025, involved a jury carefully examining the evidence presented against him. After deliberation, the jury found Prior guilty of a total of ten criminal counts. These included three counts of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child, three counts of causing or inciting a child under the age of 13 to engage in sexual activity, two counts of sexual assault of a child under 13, and two counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
In light of the severity of these crimes, the court sentenced Lloyd Prior to a prison term of 12 years. The sentencing took place on 23 April at Chelmsford Crown Court, marking a significant moment of justice for the victims and their families. The case has garnered considerable attention due to the nature of the offences and the bravery of the women who came forward to ensure that such crimes are acknowledged and prosecuted. The community in East Bergholt and beyond is now left to reflect on the importance of safeguarding children and the ongoing efforts to combat abuse and exploitation.
