LEISTON MAN GUILTY OF CHILD SEX OFFENCES COMMITTED AS A TEENAGER
A 31-year-old former Suffolk man accused of a string of child sex offences which were committed more than a decade ago when he was a teenager has been convicted by a jury.Before Ipswich Crown Court on Monday (February 3) was Liam Roberts, 31, of Vigerons Way, Grays but formerly of Leiston.
He denied 12 offences of causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, and two offences of attempted rape.
He was unanimously convicted of seven offences of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and one offence of attempted rape.
He was found guilty of three offences of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and one offence of attempted rape by majority verdicts of 10-2 and guilty of two offence of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity by 11-1 majority verdicts.
The offences were committed between 2007 and 2011 when Roberts was a teenager.
Judge Richard Kelly adjourned sentence until April 9 for a pre-sentence report and ordered Roberts to sign the sex offenders' register on an interim basis.
He allowed Roberts' conditional bail to continue.
