LIAM MORTIMORE FROM QUEENSBOROUGH SENTENCED FOR UNDERAGE SEXUAL OFFENSES IN MAIDSTONE
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the local community, Liam Mortimore, a resident of Queensborough, was sentenced to two and a half years in prison for engaging in sexual activities with a minor. The incident, which took place in Maidstone, has highlighted the dangers posed by individuals who exploit vulnerable young girls.According to court reports, the relationship between Mortimore and the 13-year-old girl began after she approached him outside a shop in Sheerness, seeking to buy alcohol. At the time, Mortimore was 20 years old and was residing in what was described as supported accommodation. The court heard that over a period of two months, the two engaged in consensual sexual encounters at Mortimore’s flat.
The court proceedings revealed that on April 16, Mortimore had sex with the 13-year-old girl once again, and on the same day, he also engaged in sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl in a different room within the same building. Mortimore admitted to two charges of sexual activity with the younger girl but denied a third charge involving the 15-year-old girl. The jury found him guilty of that charge after deliberation.
During the sentencing hearing, Judge Charles Macdonald QC described Mortimore as “an opportunist rather than predator,” but emphasized that he posed a significant danger to young girls. The judge stated that despite Mortimore’s low intelligence and apparent immaturity, he was not suitable for community-based treatment, as the severity of his crimes warranted a custodial sentence. The judge also noted that Mortimore was aware of the wrongfulness of his actions but lacked insight into his criminal behavior, especially regarding sexual matters.
In addition to his prison sentence, Mortimore was placed under a sexual offences prevention order that will restrict his access to females under 16 for the next 15 years. Upon his release, he will also be required to register as a sex offender, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.
DC Jon Wood, from the Area Major Enquiry Team, expressed satisfaction with the outcome, stating, “I am pleased that Mortimore has been brought to justice for his crimes. The success of this investigation would not have been possible without the bravery of the victims, who showed immense courage in coming forward to report these crimes. Without their bravery, this case might never have reached court. I hope the sentence handed down today will help the victims rebuild their lives, knowing that this man will remain in prison for some time. Every child matters, and those who choose to abuse children will be pursued relentlessly by law enforcement, regardless of how long ago the crimes occurred.”
