HULL MAN JAILED FOR VICIOUS DOG ATTACK AND KNIFE THREATS AMID SUBSTANCE MISUSE

A cruel thug angrily punched a dog – causing it to "yelp in pain" – after hurling nasty abuse at a woman as she was innocently getting into her car and putting the dog in its car seat.

The shocked woman told him that there was no need to hit the dog but he defiantly responded by viciously punching the defenceless animal again in a "deliberate and persistent attack".

Drug addict Liam Huteson later menaced and threatened another woman who had initially just "laughed off" his antics as "Typical Bransholme!" – but she soon got a very frightening awakening, Hull Crown Court heard.

Huteson, 33, of the Anlaby Road area, Hull, but recently in custody on remand, admitted affray, causing unnecessary suffering to a dog, possessing a knife in public and two offences of causing criminal damage on November 17.

She spotted that the male shouting was Huteson – a man she had known for many years.

"She saw him raise a knife above his head and run towards her and her son," said Mr Bradford.

"She told her son to get into the car and locked the doors quickly." Huteson told her: "I know where you live.

I have seen you six times before.

Come on, come on – you think I'm a nutter.

I know where you live." Huteson repeatedly tapped the blade of the knife on the window of the car.

The woman was "frozen in fear".

Huteson damaged the rear of the car with the knife.

She accelerated away in fear – and stopped to warn her neighbour that Huteson was attacking people.

Police were alerted because Huteson was in the street waving the knife about.

They went to his home and he spoke to officers through a window, saying: "Why do I always get arrested?" The knife was seized.

During police interview, Huteson was aggressive and refused to answer questions.

He had convictions for 136 previous offences, with six involving weapons, including being jailed for 14 weeks in March 2020 for two offences of threatening a person with a blade in public.

He was also jailed for 14 months in January 2022 and for eight months in July 2022, both for possessing a blade.

He was jailed for 18 weeks in January 2025 for a public order offence and he was locked up for 20 weeks in April 2025 for four theft offences.

Huteson pleaded guilty at the first opportunity.

"He accepts full responsibility for this conduct," said Mr Stuart.

"There has been no attempt to minimise it." "He understands that his behaviour was unacceptable and frightening.

This was not planned offending.

It was against a backdrop of severe substance misuse." "It was clearly chaotic, disinhibited behaviour fuelled by drugs.

These matters repeatedly escalated.

It was impulsive behaviour.

Repeated short prison sentences have failed to address the root cause of this offending." Recorder Andrew Haslam KC told Huteson: "You have a really bad record for offending.

The effect of your actions on those in the street has been profound." Huteson was jailed for 16 months.
