EAST YORKSHIRE OFFENDER SENTENCED FOR DOMESTIC ABUSE AND ASSAULT
Liam Coulam, aged 29 and from Bilton Grove in East Yorkshire, has admitted to harassment of his ex-partner, involving threats of violence.
Court proceedings revealed that he assaulted her by pushing her, which resulted in swelling and bruises to her head, and also pushed her off a stool, injuring her wrist.
His frustration led him to throw her phone out of a moving vehicle when she did not give him the attention he sought.
The victim's personal statement detailed her feelings of anger and frustration, though she also blamed herself for enduring his conduct, despite noting his quick temper.
Coulam's criminal history includes a previous conviction from 2019 for violence, such as slapping and punching a former partner.
The recent incident involved him following her, shouting at her, and physically attacking her during a car journey.
He was sentenced to 18 months on a suspended prison term, with additional conditions including 20 days of rehab, alcohol monitoring, and completing a relationship improvement course.
Furthermore, he was ordered to pay £1,000 in compensation for her fractured wrist.
The judge described his conduct as frightening and emphasized the duration of his abusive behavior, which caused considerable distress to the victim.
