MAN WHO CHANGED WHATSAPP PIC TO SHOT OF HIS GENITALS JAILED
An electrician who changed his WhatsApp company profile picture to a photo of his genitals has been jailed for two years.Liam Brodie, 34, of Barkhams Lane, Littleport, Cambridgeshire, also sent images of his genitals to three women, including potential customers, and unsolicited images to an ex-partner, police said.
He pleaded guilty to three counts of sending a photo or film of genitals to cause alarm, distress, or humiliation and was sentenced at Huntingdon Law Court on Monday to two years in prison.
Under the Sexual Offences and Online Safety Act, it is illegal to intentionally send or share such images if intended to cause alarm.
Cambridgeshire Police said Brodie received an inquiry about electrical work from the first victim in September 2024 and agreed to visit her to provide a quote, but became reluctant when he learned it would be the woman's husband who would be meeting him.
The woman then noticed he had changed his profile picture from his company logo to his genitals.
She challenged Brodie, who claimed his account had been hacked, and the profile picture was then changed to different photos of him naked.
Police said in November that year, a different woman contacted Brodie, and while arranging a quote for a job, he sent images of his genitals to her.
She blocked him and reported the incident.
It later transpired he had also sent unwanted photos and videos, along with strings of messages, to a former partner.
PC Coralie Skillings said: "Digital indecent exposure, or cyberflashing, is sometimes dismissed as 'funny', but it's a form of sexual violence.
Brodie maybe thought because he changed his profile picture rather than sending the image directly, he would get away with it.
However, his intention for the women to see the photo was there, and that is an offence."
