LEWIS SHAW FROM LINTHWAITE CAUGHT WITH CHILD INDECENT IMAGES IN LEEDS
In a case that has shocked the community of Linthwaite, Lewis Shaw, a 21-year-old resident of Whitehall Road, was found to possess a disturbing collection of indecent images and videos involving young children. The investigation was initiated after authorities received intelligence from Kent Police, which indicated that Shaw was actively receiving such illicit material. This information prompted a police operation that culminated in a search of Shaw’s residence on June 7 of the previous year.During the search, law enforcement officials seized Shaw’s mobile phone, which was found to contain a total of fifteen indecent images and movies classified across three categories based on severity. Among these, eight movies and one image were classified as Category A, denoting the most serious level involving young children. Additionally, Shaw’s device held six movies and one image at Category B, along with 69 images and three movies at Category C, which are considered less severe but still deeply troubling.
Prosecutor Louise Pryke addressed the court, revealing that Shaw’s behavior was uncovered through digital evidence. The case was brought before Leeds Crown Court, where Shaw faced multiple charges related to the possession of indecent images. His defense lawyer, Rukhshanda Hussain, acknowledged Shaw’s honesty in admitting that he had transitioned from viewing adult pornography to seeking out child exploitation material, believing it might better satisfy his deviant needs. Hussain emphasized that Shaw had not attempted to minimize his actions; instead, he had deleted the illicit content, although some of it remained stored on his phone. She also highlighted the support Shaw received from his family, despite the profound impact the case had on them.
Hussain further stated that Shaw recognizes the criminality of his conduct and expressed remorse, wishing to move forward with his life. She noted that Shaw understood the lifelong consequences of his conviction, which would serve as a constant reminder of his deviance. The court was told that Shaw had admitted to six charges of making indecent images.
In sentencing, Judge Peter Collier QC, the Recorder of Leeds, described Shaw’s actions as wholly unacceptable. He pointed out that Shaw’s case came to light due to information from external sources, leading to the digital evidence that confirmed his possession of the illicit material. The judge emphasized that such behavior fuels a market that perpetuates the abuse and suffering of children, causing lifelong trauma.
Judge Collier acknowledged Shaw’s awareness of the need for help and indicated that the activities prescribed by the Probation Service, including group and individual therapy, would aim to address his sexually deviant behavior. Shaw was sentenced to a three-year community order, which includes 60 days of activity, and was ordered to register as a sex offender for five years. The court’s ruling underscores the serious nature of the offense and the importance of rehabilitation to protect the public from future harm.
