HALKIRK MAN HANDED COMMUNITY ORDER AFTER ABUSIVE AND VIOLENT CONDUCT, INCLUDING ASSAULTING A 90-YEAR-OLD
A man from Halkirk, Lewis Powers, has received a two-year community payback order after his actions over a period of six months involved abusive behavior towards a woman. The court heard that Powers' misconduct continued even after he and his partner separated, with tensions about finances leading to shouting, arguing, and acts of aggression within their home in Reay.
Despite the breakup around Christmas 2021, Powers persisted in calling her, asking to rekindle their relationship, though these calls were described as unwanted.
Powers admitted to police that he was usually at fault during disputes about money, referring to his behavior as being 'like a d***head.' He pleaded guilty to a course of abusive behavior between October 1, 2021, and March 31, 2022.
Additionally, Powers admitted to threatening or abusive conduct and an assault in Tain on April 28 this year, while on bail.
The incident in Tain involved Powers causing a disturbance in a store car park, shouting and swearing, uttering threats, and pushing a 90-year-old man to the ground, although the pensioner was not injured.
As part of his sentence, Powers is required to participate in the Caledonian domestic abuse rehabilitation program, and he received a separate one-year order mandating 100 hours of unpaid work for the Tain offences.
