LEE RUSHTON FROM ABBEY HULTON ESCAPES JAIL AFTER CHILD ABUSE IMAGE SCANDAL IN STOKE-ON-TRENT
In a case that has shocked the local community of Abbey Hulton, Lee Rushton, aged 41, narrowly avoided imprisonment after being found in possession of a significant collection of child abuse images and videos. The police conducted a detailed raid on Rushton's residence on Eaveswood Road in Abbey Hulton on February 25 of the previous year, uncovering a disturbing cache of digital material.During the search, authorities seized a laptop computer, an external hard drive, and a memory stick. Subsequent forensic analysis revealed that these devices contained a total of 749 indecent photographs and videos depicting children in various states of abuse. Experts involved in the case identified that 15 of these images were classified as Category A, the most severe level of child exploitation material, highlighting the gravity of the offense.
Following his arrest and subsequent court proceedings, Rushton appeared before Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court, where he pleaded guilty to seven counts of making indecent images of children. Recognizing the seriousness of the crime, the court handed him a three-year community order, which includes strict conditions aimed at preventing further offenses.
Additionally, Rushton was subjected to a five-year sexual harm prevention order. This order explicitly prohibits him from accessing the internet unless the device he uses is capable of monitoring and storing his online activity, thereby reducing the risk of further offending.
During the sentencing, Judge Paul Glenn emphasized the impact of such crimes, stating, “This sort of crime is not a victimless crime. These images are of real children being abused by people for the entertainment of people, like you, who choose to resort to that sort of material. When you do that, you are encouraging the people who perpetrate the abuse. That’s why this is serious.”
It was noted that Rushton has no previous criminal convictions, but the court mandated a three-year supervision requirement and ordered him to complete a specialized sex offender treatment program. Furthermore, he was ordered to pay costs amounting to £1,200 and a statutory surcharge of £60.
In a move to prevent further misuse of digital devices, the court also ordered that the seized computer equipment be destroyed. The case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat child exploitation and protect vulnerable victims from harm.
