ABERDEEN MAN LEE HIPSON JAILED FOR STREET ASSAULT AND PRISON RAMPAGE
A violent thug knocked a man unconscious in an Aberdeen street, pulled down his trousers and underwear, and dragged him across the road.Lee Hipson, aged 30, clashed with the man, who was an associate of his, outside the William Hill bookies on Byron Square in Northfield.
The Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard that the incident occurred on May 3 last year.
Hipson challenged his victim because he was urinating in public, and the victim responded with a threat to stab him.
Hipson reacted by punching the man, briefly knocking him out when he fell to the ground, then pulling down his trousers and searching through his clothing.
The victim tried to walk away but was followed by Hipson, who punched his head, knocking him to the ground and causing him to lose consciousness momentarily.
Hipson then pulled down the victim’s trousers and underwear and dragged him face down across the concrete, exposing his genitals.
He then turned him onto his back while his trousers and underwear remained down, searching through his clothing.
A co-accused, Taylar Wetherly, 26, also became involved by further pulling down the man's trousers while Hipson searched his sock.
Staff at the William Hill branch witnessed the ordeal through CCTV footage.
When they attempted to intervene, Hipson shouted that the man threatened to stab him.
Both Hipson and Wetherly then fled the scene.
The victim sustained only a small cut to his lip.
Hipson, an inmate at HMP Grampian, and Wetherly, of Princes Street, Aberdeen, both pleaded guilty to assault charges.
Hipson also admitted to assault and threatening behavior during a separate incident at HMP Grampian on November 15 last year, where he caused £715.64 worth of damage during a cell rampage and spat on a prison officer.
The defence, represented by Chris Maitland, claimed Hipson had been concerned about a knife threat, which led to his outburst.
The court sentenced Hipson to 18 months' imprisonment to run consecutively to his existing sentence, and Wetherly received supervision and a curfew.
