NO JAIL FOR FEARNHEAD MAN AT WARRINGTON CROWN COURT
A MAN who beat up his girlfriend has escaped prison.Lee Gatley, of Delafield Close, Fearnhead, admitted breaking the nose of his partner Freya McGuigan but claimed it was in self-defense.
The incident occurred on October 22 during a domestic row at the shared property.
Gatley and the victim had been drinking wine before going to bed.
An argument quickly escalated, resulting in Gatley kicking his girlfriend in the face, Warrington Crown Court heard.
Prosecution barrister Mark Roberts told the court that arguments were 'commonplace' and that their relationship had almost broken down earlier that month when Gatley threatened to move out.
He claimed the assault was in self-defense because Ms.
McGuigan was attacking him and throwing candles.
The judge handed Gatley a six-month suspended sentence, noting his temper and past incidents involving the same victim.
Gatley was also given a two-year supervision order and told he could not go near the victim for five years.
