MAN WRECKS EX'S IPHONE AFTER ARGUING AT HER NEWSOME HOME
An aggressive man named Lee Breen grabbed his ex's iPhone and damaged it after a neighbour called to ask if she was okay. The neighbour had overheard Lee Breen arguing with the victim at her Newsome home.
After the caller made inquiries, Breen answered the phone and then proceeded to wreck the phone beyond repair.
He pleaded guilty to criminal damage when he appeared at Kirklees Magistrates' Court.
Prosecutor Vicky Trueman stated that the couple had been together since June 2018 in an on-off relationship, and prior allegations had been made about Breen’s past aggressive and violent behaviour towards the victim, though he had not been charged previously.
The couple had since separated, but Breen regularly visited her at her Close Hill Lane address to see their child.
On September 4, during an incident where the victim left him alone in her house, they argued late into the night, prompting her to call her phone worried.
Breen answered and explained everything was fine, but then they scuffled, both sustaining injuries.
During the scuffle, he seized her phone and bent it, causing the screen to crack and rendering it damaged beyond repair.
The magistrates ordered Breen to pay his ex £120 in compensation for the phone, fined him £60, and ordered him to pay £85 in court costs.
Ian Whiteley, his solicitor, described him as a good father and emphasized that the incident was out of character as he had been trouble-free for some time.
The court found Breen responsible for the damage and imposed the sentences accordingly.
