NOTTINGHAMSHIRE MAN ADMITS ATTEMPT TO KILL HIS MOTHER
A Nottinghamshire man has pleaded guilty to the attempted murder of his own mother.Lee Bates, of Mill Road in Newthorpe, admitted the offence when he appeared from custody at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday, October 2.
The 51-year-old was dressed in a prison-issue grey sweatshirt and joggers, and entered his plea during a short hearing.
Judge Steven Coupland announced that Bates will be sentenced on November 24, with the court planning to adjourn for further assessments.
Bates was called to the court after police responded to reports of a stabbing at Mill Road in Newthorpe on June 6 at 8:05pm.
His 71-year-old mother, Julie Bates, was found with serious injuries and was hospitalized.
Her son was immediately arrested and charged with attempted murder.
Prosecutor Steve Bailey mentioned Bates has limited previous convictions, including an arson offence, but none since 2007.
Detective Sergeant Jackie Price stated that this was an isolated incident inside a home, and police investigation has helped reassure residents.
Bates's next court appearance is scheduled for November 24 for sentencing.
