LEE ASHCROFT FROM GREATER MANCHESTER CAUGHT WITH CHILD ABUSE IMAGES IN SHOCKING POLICE SCANDAL
In December 2022, a disturbing case emerged involving a police officer from Greater Manchester who was found to possess and conceal child abuse images on his personal computer. The officer, identified as PC Lee Ashcroft, was seen walking with his face hidden in shame as he left court after being convicted of serious crimes related to child exploitation.Investigations revealed that Ashcroft’s laptop had been deliberately tampered with to hide incriminating evidence. Authorities had to send the device to experts at the Government’s intelligence headquarters to crack the encryption software he had installed. This software was specifically used to prevent access to the files and to wipe the device clean of any evidence that could link him to the illegal material.
During the forensic examination, investigators uncovered a particularly disturbing video stored on Ashcroft’s laptop. The footage was classified as Category A, indicating the most severe level of child abuse content. The video lasted approximately eight minutes and depicted highly disturbing material involving minors. Despite the efforts to conceal his activities, the authorities managed to decode the encryption and access the vile content.
Throughout the investigation and court proceedings, Ashcroft maintained his innocence. He claimed that he was a victim of an online fraud campaign, attempting to dismiss the evidence against him. However, the court found his claims unconvincing and convicted him of possessing indecent images of children.
At Liverpool Crown Court, the 39-year-old officer was sentenced to a 10-month prison term, which was suspended for two years. In addition to the suspended sentence, Ashcroft was ordered to complete a 12-month community order, including 120 hours of unpaid work. He was also issued a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which restricts his activities and contact with minors.
Furthermore, Ashcroft is required to register as a sex offender for the next ten years. The court also imposed financial penalties, including a costs order of £1,500 and a victim surcharge of £156. The case has sent shockwaves through the community and highlights the ongoing concerns about trust and accountability within law enforcement agencies in Greater Manchester.
