Bideford Sexual Abuser Child Sexual Abuser
A man from Devon has been sentenced to five years in prison for serious sexual abuse. Lawrence Pipe, aged 58 and from the Bideford area, was convicted of two indecent assaults on a child under 13 and several other non-sexual offences. The case was heard at Exeter Crown Court, where he was ordered to serve a five-year jail term and to sign the Sex Offenders' Registry for 10 years. The allegations surfaced in 2021 when the victim reported historical sexual touching that occurred when she was a child. She described how Pipe touched her sexually and encouraged her to engage in sexual activity. Pipe denied any sexual contact, claiming he had no sexual interest in children, but the jury did not believe his defense and found him guilty. Detective Constable Neil Palmer from Devon and Cornwall Police commented: βThis was a serious case of sexual abuse involving a young child during the 1990s. The victim displayed immense bravery in reporting and providing evidence for court. This investigation was complex and lengthy, and we thank all witnesses for their patience. We hope this conviction aids in her healing process.β Anyone affected by similar crimes or seeking support can visit https://victimcare-dc.org, call Victim Support at 0808 1689 111, or contact the Victim Care Unit at Devon and Cornwall Police on 01392 475900.
