ASTLEY BRIDGE WOMAN SENTENCED FOR ATTACK WAS ABUSE VICTIM
An Astley Bridge woman has been sentenced for stabbing her partner.Lauren Proctor, 33, of Athlone Avenue, was charged with possession of a bladed article and wounding or inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent.
She appeared in Bolton Crown Court on Wednesday, June 11, to be sentenced.
Zahra Khan, prosecuting, said that a witness heard shouting outside her home at 10pm on May 12, 2025, and looked out the window.
After looking into the street she heard a man say "you stabbed me!" before Proctor said: "I'm going to end you, I'm going to kill you!" The two were then seen to come out into the front garden, where Proctor said: "You have been threatening my family" and "come out here, I’ll fight anyone!" The witness said that Proctor shouted "ring the police, ring the police" at a passer-by.
Ms Khan said: "There was blood on his left arm that [the witness] described as 'pi**ing with blood'." She said that Proctor then turned herself in to officers and "admitted she had stabbed him in the arm." She said: "[Proctor] was arrested, cautioned and interviewed the next day.
She was cooperative and explained that they had had an argument and [her partner] had stabbed her with a pole.
She said that she had called the police and got the knife in a kitchen drawer." Ms Khan said that Proctor had went to her mum's house, expecting her partner to have left when she came back home.
She said: "She went back in thinking he wouldn't be there – he was still there – and she admitted that she snapped and stabbed him." Martin Pizzey, defending, said that Proctor has been the victim of domestic abuse and suffers from PTSD.
"It wasn’t a dangerous weapon in terms of a highly dangerous weapon.
It’s not a hunting knife, a bowie knife or a samurai sword – it was a knife obtained from the kitchen." "First of all – this is a defendant that has never been in trouble before.
It's quite clear in her life recently there have been instances of domestic abuse where she has been the victim." Mr Pizzey handed a note to the judge written by a friend of Proctor's that he said went into more detail too sensitive for public eyes.
He said that Proctor had referred herself to the alcohol treatment service and has taken steps to resolve her issues.
Judge Rachel Galloway said that she still considered a kitchen knife to be a highly dangerous weapon.
She added that she had seen a picture of the victim's arm after the incident which showed a "significant injury".
Despite mitigating factors, the custody threshold has still been met.
She sentenced Proctor to an eight month sentence suspended for 12 months and six months of alcohol treatment requirements.
