GWYNEDD WOMAN BANNED FROM KEEPING ANIMALS FOR 10 YEARS AFTER FAILING TO CARE FOR HER DOG
A woman named Lauraine Jones, aged 41, from Moel Gwyl, Llan Ffestiniog, Gwynedd, has been found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering to her dog.The court heard that Jones refused to take her dog, Sian, to the vet because she knew it would be put down.
Lauraine Jones admitted to causing unnecessary suffering by failing to obtain veterinary care for the animal.
She was subsequently banned from keeping animals for 10 years and ordered to pay £85 in costs.
The case was heard at Llandudno magistrates' court, where it was revealed that the dog, described as a terrier-type named Sian, had suffered in her final months, appearing emaciated and very ill.
Prosecutor Tudur Owen, representing the RSPCA, stated that images of Sian were among the worst he had seen, and that an inspector was told the dog had been very ill at Jones' home and had to be euthanized by a veterinarian.
The court observed that while Jones appeared to care about her dog and was very upset upon learning Sian would not recover, her failure to seek proper vet care was the basis for her conviction.
The defense, represented by Michael Strain, argued that Jones loved her dog and had made efforts to nurse her through her illness.
