SERIAL RAPIST AND MURDERER LARRY FISHER DIES IN PRISON
Larry Fisher was responsible for a 1969 murder that led to the wrongful conviction of David Milgaard.His appearance before the Supreme Court of Canada in 1992 was a significant moment, as he was called to testify during a review of Milgaard's case.
Fisher, who was also a convicted rapist, admitted that he had a pattern of committing violent crimes, including rapes and assaults, many of which occurred in the dark and involved the use of knives.
During the court proceedings, he was delicately led through details of his criminal behavior by lawyer Hersh Wolch, who questioned him about his methods and patterns.
Fisher acknowledged that he had a problem and that his actions were carefully thought out and often successful in avoiding detection.
Wolch suggested that Fisher's crimes matched the pattern of the murder of Gail Miller, which Fisher denied committing but admitted that in describing that murder, there was nothing in the story that he hadn't done before.
The court's deliberation was influenced by Fisher's testimony, and while they weren't fully convinced of Milgaard's innocence, the case was stayed.
Years later, new DNA evidence proved Milgaard's innocence and linked Fisher to the murder, resulting in Fisher's conviction for Miller's murder and imprisonment for life.
Hersh Wolch described Fisher as 'pure evil' upon his death, which occurred while he was serving his sentence.
