LAMONT GEDDES SENTENCED TO 19.5 YEARS FOR RAPE AND ABUSE IN WOLVERHAMPTON

A notorious sex offender from Wolverhampton has been handed a lengthy prison sentence of 19 and a half years after being convicted of multiple serious crimes, including rape and assault. The case highlights a disturbing pattern of abuse that spanned several years, during which Lamont Geddes, aged 24, exerted a brutal and controlling influence over a woman’s life.

Throughout this period, Geddes subjected the victim to both physical and sexual abuse, employing coercive tactics to dominate her. His actions included making explicit threats to her safety, such as threatening to kill her and even warning that he would put petrol through her letterbox, instilling ongoing fear and intimidation.

The turning point in this harrowing case occurred on August 11 of the previous year, when the woman, after enduring a particularly violent episode of abuse, managed to flag down a passing police vehicle. Her courage in seeking help was instrumental in bringing her ordeal to light. During her interaction with officers, she bravely recounted the years of suffering she had endured at Geddes’s hands, describing how he had effectively taken control of her life.

Following her disclosure, Geddes was formally charged with 11 separate offences. The case proceeded to trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court, where a jury found him guilty of all charges. The offences included six counts of rape, two counts of assault, controlling and coercive behaviour, grievous bodily harm, and attempted wounding. The conviction underscores the severity and brutality of his actions.

Geddes, whose address is listed as Douglas Place, was sentenced on September 27 to serve 19 and a half years behind bars. The sentence reflects the gravity of his crimes and the danger he posed to the victim and the wider community.

Detective Constable Beth Felton, a member of the Adult Complex Investigation Team, commented on the case, emphasizing the prolonged and escalating nature of the abuse. She stated, “This case spanned over several years and the level of abuse escalated with Geddes making the woman’s life a living nightmare. After one violent assault, the woman managed to flag down a passing police vehicle, and the true horror of the abuse came to light. She has shown incredible courage throughout this investigation, which proved pivotal in securing a conviction.”

She also noted that Geddes had denied all charges, forcing the victim to relive her trauma by giving evidence in court. The sentencing serves as a stark reminder of the seriousness of his offences and the risks associated with such dangerous individuals.

The police department expressed hope that the victim’s bravery would inspire others who are suffering from abuse or sexual violence to come forward. They reassured the public that support is available and that authorities are committed to listening and helping survivors.
