KYLE PROTHEROE'S VIOLENT CRIMES IN RHOOSE LEAD TO PRISON SENTENCE

Kyle Protheroe, a 36-year-old man residing on Port Road in Rhoose, has been sentenced to prison following a series of violent and obsessive acts directed towards his former partner, Rachel Jones, and her friend, Daniel Coles. The court heard that Protheroe’s actions were not only physically aggressive but also driven by a disturbing pattern of stalking and invasive behavior that caused significant fear and distress to his victims.

Protheroe’s assault on Daniel Coles was particularly severe. During an incident, he punched and kicked Mr. Coles multiple times, resulting in injuries that included a concussion. The injuries were serious enough to require hospital treatment, highlighting the brutality of the attack. This assault was part of a broader pattern of violence that Protheroe had exhibited towards those close to him.

Prior to this violent episode, Protheroe had also engaged in a series of troubling behaviors directed at his ex-girlfriend, Rachel Jones. He had physically assaulted her with a mobile phone, an act that demonstrated his aggressive tendencies. Additionally, he had been stalking Ms. Jones, repeatedly messaging her and invading her personal space. Court proceedings revealed that Protheroe had entered her home without permission, an act that further underscored his obsessive and invasive conduct. Evidence presented in court indicated that he left gifts and messages for Ms. Jones, behaviors that reflected a deep-seated obsession and a refusal to accept the end of their relationship.

The court was informed that Ms. Jones was genuinely frightened by Protheroe’s persistent messaging and invasive actions. His entry into her home was achieved through deception, which added to her sense of vulnerability. She expressed fears for her safety and that of her daughter, describing how her mental health had been affected. She reported experiencing disturbing nightmares and a constant feeling of insecurity, which underscored the emotional toll of Protheroe’s actions.

The night of November 6 marked a particularly alarming escalation. Protheroe confronted Ms. Jones and her friend outside her residence, leading to a physical altercation. During this confrontation, he attacked Mr. Coles, who was attempting to escape the situation. Despite his efforts to flee, Protheroe continued his assault on Mr. Coles. The police were called to the scene after Mr. Coles sustained injuries and reported being followed by a vehicle that threatened his life. This incident demonstrated the dangerous and unpredictable nature of Protheroe’s behavior.

In court, Protheroe’s criminal history was brought to light. His past included harassment charges in 2006 and a conviction in 2010. He also had a history of heroin addiction, which he reportedly managed to overcome. His legal team requested a non-custodial sentence, citing his efforts to address emotional control issues. However, the judge decided otherwise, sentencing Protheroe to 18 months in prison and imposing a five-year restraining order to protect his victims.

The judge condemned Protheroe’s unprovoked attack and his refusal to accept the end of his relationship. The court emphasized that his persistent messaging and violent conduct had caused Ms. Jones to fear for her safety. The ruling underscored the seriousness of his actions and the need for protective measures to prevent further harm.
