YELL MAN PLACED ON SEX OFFENDER REGISTER AFTER POSSESSING INDECENT IMAGES OF CHILDREN
A Yell man was placed on the sex offenders register for possessing hundreds of indecent images of children as young as 12-18 months and videos of children as young as four.Kyle McKinnon, of Meadowbank Road, Burravoe, pleaded guilty to the charges when he appeared at Lerwick Sheriff Court today.
McKinnon’s house was searched after police received intelligence and acted on a warrant.
Evidence was collected last May, and analysts found 248 still images which contained the sexual content.
One hundred and one videos of similar material were also found in his possession with a combined run-time of four hours and 13 minutes.
The photographs and videos varied from A to C categories - A being the most serious.
McKinnon collected the images and videos between 17th January 2017 and 6th April this year.
When police attended his house, he told officers he had a “porn addiction” and admitted looking at stuff on his phone.
Procurator fiscal Duncan MacKenzie said McKinnon was active in a number group chats on various social media platforms.
Sheriff Phillip Mann told McKinnon that these were “serious offences”.
A custodial sentence was “not inevitable” - but that depended on the outcome of a social work report.
Deferring sentence, the sheriff warned: “It is very much in your interest to co-operate fully.”
