In Aberfan, 47-year-old Kyle Jones, a known violent offender, carried out an assault on his former partner, Janice Thomas, inside her home.On October 21, Jones arrived unexpectedly and forced entry into her residence.
During the attack, he headbutted her in the face, leading to nosebleeds, and inflicted other injuries.
Ms Thomas was left shocked, feeling she might suffocate as Jones held her in a chokehold, preventing her from breathing.
She tried to resist and escape but was assaulted further, including a punch to her face.
She managed to break free when she grabbed his genitals after his trousers slipped down, allowing her to run out and find help.
Ms Thomas described feeling that Jones was attempting to strangle her to death and shouted for him to stop.
The police detained Jones shortly after the incident.
At court, he pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm.
The judge took into account his previous convictions, which include an assault on his stepmother in 2013.
Defense lawyer Rosamund Rutter noted that Jones was very drunk and had little recollection of what happened.
Judge Greg Bull QC sentenced him to two years in prison, emphasizing the importance of addressing domestic violence, the lengthy assault, and the victim's fear during the attack.
