LANGHO MAN ADMITS HARASSING EX-PARTNER AFTER BREAK-UP
A man struggling to accept the end of a long-term relationship bombarded his ex-partner with text messages, some of which became abusive.Blackburn Magistrates' Court heard that on Valentine's Day, Kurt Gillibrand left presents on the bonnet of his victim's car in an attempt to rekindle the relationship.
Gillibrand, 51, of Larkhill, Old Langho, pleaded guilty to harassment.
He was fined £153 with £85 costs and a £61 victim surcharge and made subject to a restraining order for 12 months, which prohibits any contact with his former partner or entering the street in Clitheroe where she lives.
Bilal Saeed, prosecuting, said the texts were sent over a period of two months following the end of a long-term relationship.
"He accepts sending an excessive number of texts and attending at her home, leaving unwanted gifts," said Mr Saeed.
"She saw him in the launderette close to her home, and when she was visiting her mother saw his van nearby.
"The unwanted gifts were left around Valentine's Day." Gareth Price, mitigating, said his client had been on bail since March and there had been no problems since.
"A lot of what is alleged is not accepted as amounting to harassment," said Mr Price.
"Following the breakdown, they were living in the same house while they tried to sell the property.
"The messages were excessive, and some were slightly abusive.
"On Valentine's Day, he delivered some presents and left them on the bonnet of her car," said Mr Price.
"Clearly, they were not wanted."
