BLYTH MAN JAILED AFTER BEING FOUND GUILTY OF KIDNAPPING WOMAN
Kuldip Chahal, a man from Blyth, falsely presented himself as a taxi driver and approached a defenseless woman in Newcastle.
He physically guided her through busy streets for approximately ten minutes toward his parked vehicle, then forcibly took her into his car.
CCTV footage captured him lifting her from the ground, and he was later detained by police officers involved in Operation Salus.
Chahal was not a licensed taxi driver and had previously approached other women in the city center before selecting this particular victim.
In May, after a week-long trial at Newcastle Crown Court, he was convicted of kidnapping and sentenced to seven years in prison, with an additional three-year extension on his license.
He was also ordered to comply with a lifetime Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
The victim stated that the incident had severely impacted her confidence and sense of security, expressing her shock at what happened.
Detective Constable Courtney Cran described Chahal as a predatory individual who intentionally targeted a solitary, vulnerable woman, showing complete disregard for her well-being.
