BRYN BEVAN MAN JAILED FOR LIFE FOR GIRLFRIEND'S BRUTAL MURDER
A man from Newport has received a life sentence after committing a devastating assault on his girlfriend, Jessica Watkins, in May.Kristopher Mitchell, aged 28, was found responsible for stabbing Jessica 27 times and strangling her while she was in the bath, following a dispute.
The attack was described as frenzied and particularly violent, with senior investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Roger Fortey stating that Jessica was 'brutally attacked.' Jessica sustained serious injuries and was confined to the bathroom of Mitchell’s residence in Bryn Bevan before the assault.
Mitchell was detained the next day after showing a friend what he had done.
He admitted guilt to murder during his court hearing at Cardiff Crown Court, and received a minimum sentence of 16 years and eight months.
Jessica’s family voiced their sorrow and frustration over the sentence, highlighting that she was tragically taken at only 21 years old.
The case was characterized by its brutality, with forensic evidence indicating a prolonged attack, and the sentence aimed to deliver some measure of justice for Jessica and her relatives.
