Holsworthy Sexual Abuser
A disturbing case of voyeurism involving Kristoffer Roberts has resulted in his imprisonment following a chilling incident in Holsworthy, Devon. Roberts, a 29-year-old man with a troubling criminal past, was caught spying on a young girl who was sleeping on her bed during a very hot summer morning.

According to reports, the teenage girl, who was 17 at the time, was lying undressed in her room, unaware that she was being watched. It was around 6.30 a.m. during a heatwave when she was suddenly awakened by the sound of a camera phone clicking and taking pictures. She then saw a figure peering through a narrow gap in her bedroom blinds, which covered a ground floor window in her home. The shock of discovering her privacy had been invaded prompted her to call her mother immediately.

Her mother responded quickly, shouting at the intruder, who was later identified as Kristoffer Roberts. Roberts fled the scene, but he did not escape justice. Law enforcement authorities swiftly processed the incident, discovering evidence that linked Roberts to the crime. CCTV footage captured him at the scene, wearing the same baseball cap he was later seen wearing in arrest photographs. Additionally, police found a beer bottle at the location with Roberts’s fingerprints on it, which helped confirm his presence.

This incident was part of a broader pattern of misconduct by Roberts. He had a notorious history as a sex offender, having served time in 2014 for using a mobile phone to record approximately 657 women without their consent in upskirt photos and videos. His criminal record also includes a violent assault on his girlfriend, which was inflicted while he was under the influence of alcohol and drugs. During that attack, Roberts put his partner in a chokehold and strangled her three times with increasing force after she told him to leave her home in Torquay because of his drunken state. The trauma from this assault was significant enough that his girlfriend, who was studying to become a nurse, struggled to continue her education and is now appealing to stay enrolled.

Roberts, who was previously residing at Drum Way, Heathfield, Newton Abbot, but has since moved to Abelia Close, Paignton, pleaded guilty to charges of voyeurism, strangulation, and battery during his court appearance. His sentencing took place at Exeter Crown Court, where Judge Peter Johnson sentenced him to a total of 22 months in prison. Furthermore, Roberts was ordered to be placed on the sex offenders’ register for a further seven years.

The judge emphasized the severity of the crime, stating: “The victim of your voyeurism was a 17-year-old girl lying in her own bed asleep and naked because of the temperature. She became aware of someone standing by the window and of a clicking noise being made by a mobile phone taking photographs.”

During the proceedings, the prosecution, led by Miss Felicity Payne, detailed the events of that hot August day in 2020. She explained that the girl’s mother had contacted the police after noticing suspicious activity involving a prowler who had been taking pictures of her daughter through a small gap in the window blinds. The identification of Roberts was confirmed through CCTV footage, which showed him at the scene, and by the fact that he had dropped a beer bottle at the scene that bore his fingerprints.

Adding to his troubled history, Roberts’s violent tendencies also include an attack on his partner. Witnesses reported that he had attempted to subdue her with an arm lock and strangled her three times during an argument, further illustrating his pattern of aggressive and dangerous behavior.

In defense, Mr. Martin Salloway acknowledged Roberts’s issues with alcohol and drugs, which he said stemmed from a tumultuous and abusive childhood. The defense advocated for rehabilitation, stating that Roberts was addressing his addiction problems while in custody. Salloway also emphasized remorse, asserting that Roberts was genuinely sorry for the harm his actions had caused.

The combination of Roberts’s criminal past, the detail of the voyeuristic act, and his violent history underlined the seriousness of his sentencing, which aims to both punish and protect the community from further harm.
