KLAUDIUSZ GRZESIAK WALKED FREE FROM COURT IN LAXEY AFTER DOG KILLING CHARGES DROPPED
Klaudiusz Maria Grzesiak, born around 1973 and residing at Ballacannell Estate, Laxey, Isle of Man IM4, was acquitted of charges related to the alleged killing of his family’s dog in 2019. The case was dismissed after the only witness, his wife Marta Adamczewska-Grzesiak, declined to testify against him.The allegations against the Polish national involved strangling the family cocker spaniel, named Milka, which was found dead in a children’s shed in the garden of their home in Ballacannell, Laxey, on Tuesday, November 19, 2019. The dog’s body was wrapped in clear plastic and placed inside a black bag. A post-mortem examination confirmed that Milka died from strangulation to the front of the neck, with additional injuries indicating trauma to her back.
Mrs. Grzesiak had previously advertised the dog as missing on Facebook before her body was discovered. Prosecutor Roger Kane told the court during an initial hearing that Mrs. Grzesiak had received text messages about the dog following a verbal dispute with her husband the previous day.
Klaudiusz Grzesiak denied causing unnecessary suffering to the dog and damaging property. However, just days before a pre-trial review on Christmas Eve 2019, his wife retracted a statement she had previously made to police.
Prosecution advocate Rebecca Cubbon explained that, by law, the authorities could not compel Mrs. Grzesiak to testify against her husband. As a result, the prosecution’s case was effectively abandoned, leading to the removal of all charges.
Mrs. Hughes, the presiding magistrate, stated that no further action would be taken against Grzesiak and formally dismissed the charges. She also emphasized that the prosecution was not responsible for the trial’s collapse and that defense costs would not be reimbursed.
