| Red Rose Database
Tunbridge Wells Puddletown Child Sexual Abuser
In a disturbing case that has shocked communities in Puddletown, Dorset, and Tunbridge Wells, Kent, two individuals have been implicated in heinous child sex offenses involving coercion, exploitation, and the distribution of indecent images. The severity of their crimes has led to lengthy prison sentences and stringent court orders, highlighting the ongoing battle against child abuse and exploitation.
James Jewell, aged 36, a resident of Brymer Road in Puddletown, was brought before Maidstone Crown Court on Thursday, August 13, 2020, where he received a life sentence for his involvement in a series of grave offenses. Jewell pleaded guilty to six counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, as well as aiding and abetting the sexual assault of a child. Additionally, he admitted to three counts of creating indecent images of a child and two counts of distributing such images. The crimes for which Jewell was convicted spanned from November 2017 to July 2018, with the offenses taking place in Greenhithe and Tunbridge Wells.
Jewell's actions included encouraging two women he met online to carry out sexual abuse of children, a revelation that has added to the horror of this case. His arrest came on August 22, 2018, following an extensive investigation, and he was formally charged on February 12, 2020. The court has stipulated that Jewell must serve a minimum of six years and eight months before he becomes eligible for parole, reflecting the gravity of his crimes.
In a related and equally disturbing case, Kirsty Kimber, aged 26, of York Road in Tunbridge Wells, was sentenced in February to over nine years in prison after pleading guilty to six counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, four counts of taking indecent photographs of a child, and three counts of distributing such images. Her offenses came to light after a friend discovered videos on Kimber’s mobile phone depicting her abusing a child. Kimber was found to have shared these videos via instant messaging apps with James Jewell, with whom she had a disturbing online relationship.
The investigation revealed that Kimber and Jewell referred to themselves as “master” and “slave,” a disturbing dynamic that underscored their depravity. Kimber’s crimes included filming herself assaulting children and sharing these videos, which ranged from a few seconds to nearly three minutes in length. Her actions were uncovered after a colleague attempted to repair her phone, leading to the discovery of the horrifying content.
Jewell’s involvement was further confirmed when he was arrested and charged in connection with Kimber’s offenses. During his court appearance via Skype at Maidstone Crown Court, Jewell appeared visibly distressed, covering his mouth with his hand as the charges were read. He expressed a desire to proceed without legal representation, hoping that doing so might result in a longer prison sentence. Jewell admitted to eight charges of aiding, abetting, or inciting sexual activity involving a child, as well as other related offenses, including distributing indecent images and making a total of 139 indecent photographs of children.
Jewell explained to the court that he had sought psychiatric help prior to his arrest and had been trying to address his issues during his time on bail. Despite his pleas, the judge, Judge David Griffith-Jones QC, emphasized that a custodial sentence was inevitable, criticizing the lengthy period Jewell had been on bail. The court’s decision reflects the seriousness of his crimes and the need for justice for the victims involved.
Both Kimber and Jewell were subjected to Sexual Harm Prevention Orders, further restricting their contact with children and preventing any future harm. The case underscores the importance of vigilance and the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat child exploitation in the UK. The community remains urged to report any suspicious activity to authorities to help protect vulnerable children from such predatory individuals.
