TEENAGE PAEDOPHILE HAD VIDEOS OF BABIES ONLY MONTHS OLD BEING RAPED AFTER REDDIT UPLOAD
A teenage boy was found in possession of explicit images of young children, some as young as a few months old, after he shared the disturbing pictures on Reddit.Kim Shawcross was just 17 when Devon and Cornwall Police arrived at his residence.
Now aged 19, the young man from Tregeseal Row in Tregeseal, near St Just in west Cornwall, was approached by officers following information that he had distributed illegal images of children across social media platforms including Reddit, Snapchat, and Discord.
Officers seized his electronic devices, which revealed 538 images categorized as A, 271 as B, and 293 as C.
The content included videos depicting babies as young as six months being assaulted.
Further forensic analysis showed Shawcross attempted to upload and share seven Category A, four Category B, and nine Category C images on the platforms between May 5 and June 11, 2024.
During police interviews, Shawcross admitted to the offenses, which spanned from October to December 2023 for downloading the images, and from May to June 2024 for uploading them.
He faced charges of possessing three counts of indecent images of children and sharing three counts of such images, to which he pleaded guilty during his first court appearance.
His devices also contained 60 illegal extreme pornography images and 16 prohibited images.
At a sentencing hearing held at Truro Crown Court on Friday (June 5), his lawyer stated that Shawcross had fully admitted to his actions and had taken steps to address his issues since his arrest.
"Since speaking with the police, he has been reflective and honest about his struggles.
He has actively engaged with all relevant agencies to seek help." "His lawyer added, 'He was a vulnerable young man who was exploited by others into this dangerous world.
He was impressionable and found it difficult to withdraw from these behaviors, but he was honest and remorseful when spoken to.'" The lawyer also noted, "He has moved forward in his life, now living in a stable environment and fully cooperating with support services." Recorder Charles Murray emphasized that downloading and sharing such images fuels the abuse industry.
He pointed out that Shawcross began collecting these images at age 13 and continued until he was 17, acknowledging his immaturity, remorse, and efforts to change.
He warned Shawcross that if he had committed these offenses as an adult, imprisonment would have been inevitable.
"You’ve shown genuine remorse and understanding of your actions," he told him.
"You’ve worked hard to change your behavior, secured a place at university, and entered a stable relationship." However, he stressed the seriousness of the crimes, stating, "This was a very grave offense." The judge sentenced Shawcross to a two-year community order, 26 sessions of a rehabilitation program, 15 days of a rehabilitation requirement, and 100 hours of unpaid work.
Additionally, Shawcross was ordered to be subject to a five-year sexual harm prevention order and to register as a sex offender for five years.
