MAN FINED FOR BREACHING COVID-19 LOCKDOWN AFTER BEING THROWN OUT OF EX-PARTNER'S HOUSE
A 24-year-old man named Kieran Hughes faced legal repercussions after breaching coronavirus lockdown laws by repeatedly attempting to re-enter his ex-partner’s residence on Finlaggan Crescent.Hughes was observed and heard moving through the shared entrance on April 11th, which led to his being charged with violating restrictions related to the pandemic by being outside his designated area during the early morning hours.
The woman had asked Hughes to leave the premises following their breakup, and he was caught trying to look through her letterbox, access the property via windows and doors, and became threatening in his demeanor.
Hughes also violated a court undertaking which prohibited him from approaching or contacting the woman by returning to her property the day after being released from police custody at West Bell Street, despite clear instructions to stay away.
His defense lawyer, Anika Jethwa, explained that Hughes had consumed excessive alcohol and was emotionally distressed by the breakup, which affected his behavior.
She stated, “He was obviously outwith his home in the early hours of the morning.
He was given an undertaking to appear at court with a condition to stay away from the property and from the complainer.
He tells me he was still under the influence and took a taxi to the address where he wasn’t meant to go.
He thought he was going to collect the keys.
There was no way that he was going to get away with it.” Sheriff John Rafferty decided to fine Hughes £120 and imposed a one-week non-harassment order to prevent him from contact or approaching the woman.
Hughes expressed gratitude to the court before being led away from the dock, acknowledging the judgment and his circumstances.
