KEVIN WOODS FROM STOCKSBRIDGE SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON 9-YEAR-OLD DURING LOCKDOWN
In a case that has shocked the local community of Stocksbridge, Kevin Woods, a 55-year-old resident of Manchester Road, was sentenced to five and a half years in prison after pleading guilty to serious sexual offenses involving a young girl. The incident took place during the COVID-19 lockdown period, a time when many families faced increased stress and isolation, which unfortunately was exploited in this case.Woods was charged with and admitted to two counts of sexual assault against a girl under the age of 13. The assaults occurred between March and June 2020, a period marked by strict lockdown measures that kept children confined at home and limited their interactions with others outside their immediate family. According to court records, Woods engaged in inappropriate behavior on two separate occasions, during which he watched a children’s film with his young victim before subjecting her to sexual assault.
The young girl, who was only nine years old at the time, confided in her mother about the abuse on June 21, 2020. Her mother immediately contacted the police, leading to an investigation that uncovered the disturbing details of Woods’ misconduct. Initially, Woods denied any involvement or wrongdoing, attempting to dismiss the allegations. However, as evidence was gathered and the victim’s account was corroborated, Woods eventually admitted to the charges.
Following his guilty plea, the court imposed a sentence of five and a half years in prison. Additionally, Woods was subject to a Sexual Crime Prevention Order, a legal measure designed to restrict his activities and prevent further offenses. He was also placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register, ensuring ongoing monitoring and public safety measures. The case highlights the importance of vigilance and the need for protective measures for vulnerable children, especially during times of societal stress such as a pandemic lockdown.
